Lunosia private transcription

Privacy

Last updated 29 July 2026

Lunosia collects nothing. No accounts, no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reports. Your audio and your transcripts never leave your computer, because there is no server to send them to.

Why that claim is structural, not a promise

Most apps that say this are asking you to trust their policy. Lunosia is built so that the claim holds whether or not you trust anyone: speech recognition runs inside your own browser using a model that downloads once and then works offline. There is no backend, no database and no account system anywhere in the product.

You can verify it. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab, and record something. After the one-time model download you will see no outbound requests at all. Or simply disconnect from the internet — once the model is cached, everything still works.

What the extension is allowed to reach

Lunosia requests no Chrome permissions. It asks for network access to exactly two hosts, and only to download the speech model the first time you use it:

HostWhy
huggingface.co/onnx-community/*Downloads the open-source Whisper speech model, once.
*.hf.coThe content network those model files redirect to.

Nothing is uploaded to those hosts. The traffic is a download, in one direction, and it stops once the model is cached.

What is stored, and where

Everything is kept in your own browser's local storage, on your machine. Nothing is synced.

Audio is never written to disk by Lunosia. Recorded sound is held in memory only, so you can play a line back and check the transcript against it, and it is discarded when you close the tab — unless you deliberately export it with the Save audio button.

Clearing your browser data, or pressing Clear in the app, removes all of it permanently. There is no copy anywhere else, and no way for anyone — including me — to recover it.

Payment

Lunosia Pro is a single payment handled entirely by Stripe, who act as merchant of record. Your card details are entered on Stripe's own checkout page and are never seen by, or passed through, Lunosia. I receive only what Stripe shows any merchant: that a purchase happened, and the name and email on the receipt, so I can help if you lose your unlock code.

Unlocking Pro is checked inside your browser. It involves no request to any server, so buying it does not create an account or identify you to the app.

Links out

The Summary tab can offer reference links for the main topics in a transcript. Those links are assembled on your machine from words already in your own text. Nothing is sent when they are generated. If you choose to click one, your browser makes an ordinary search — the same as typing that word yourself — and only the single term you clicked leaves your computer. The transcript never does.

Children

Lunosia is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the date at the top changes with it. Any change that weakened the core claim would have to be described here in plain language first — but there is no roadmap in which audio starts leaving your machine, because that would destroy the reason the product exists.
